History of the Championship
The Benelux Yo-Yo Championship marks a significant milestone for yo-yo enthusiasts in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. This event fills a gap in the competitive yo-yo scene in our region, which has long been celebrated by our neighbours in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
We held our first edition to great success in 2025 in Leusden The Netherlands. We attracted around a 100 people and inspired several new people to give the hobby a try.
The Netherlands has a history with the yo-yo, dating back to the yo-yo craze in 1932. In 1970, Amsterdam hosted the 21 yo-yo champions from all over the world, who gave a yo-yo demonstration in the Hilton hotel. Archival footage can be seen here: https://youtu.be/oPBFywPPhvE
Inspired by the European Yo-Yo Championship (EYYC), the Benelux Yo-Yo Championship aspires to foster community, showcase incredible skill, and celebrate the joy of yo-yoing. It aims to honour the legacy of yo-yoing in the Netherlands and provide a platform for the next generation of yo-yo talent to shine.
